Maybelline’s New (York) Me! Party @ Zouk

987fm DJ, Rozz hosting the event

Maybelline had a party at Zouk called the ‘New (York) Me! on 27th April 2012. Guests were dressed in New York fashion style clothes and were treated to fashion shows by Forever 21, music performances as well as a make over session on stage.

Radio Heatwave got to interview the Marketing Executive of Maybelline, and talk to her about make up for students!

Radio Heatwave: What are some of the basic make up must haves, you would recommend to students?

Maybelline: Basic make up definitely involves a BB Cream as it makes your skin look flawless and radiant. Another thing you must have is a blusher as when you put it on, it really changes the way you look. Lastly, eyeliner as it really opens up your eyes. If you have just crawled out of bed and have no time to get ready, just draw your eyes! You will look fresher!

Radio Heatwave: Should poly students’ stick to wearing nude make up to school, or should they go more smokey/glammed up if they dare to?

Maybelline: Basic make up is the healthy kind of look, and people do always say that they want to look natural. However, the natural look is always created. If you are in school during the day and heading out later in the evening/night, why not wear a smokey eye?

Radio Heatwave: Where can students go to for more make up advice?

Maybelline: If you want simple make up advice, you can go to our Maybelline Fan page. If you want more in-depth advice, you can go to our beauty advisors store at Watsons Ngee Ann City and Watsons Tampines Mall.

Radio Heatwave: What are your top 3 Maybelline products that you must have in your handbag?

Maybelline: For me, I have a mascara as you never know when you need to top it up. I have the falsies mascara with me all the time. I have the colour sensational lipstick (pink wink), which is quite moisturizing and finally, I have a pressed powder to touch up.

Radio Heatwave: Is Maybelline bringing in any new products to Singapore?

Maybelline: We have new product launches almost every other month and the next one that we are having is in July. If not, we have limited edited products for our consumers. Keep a look out!amazing feeling.

One Direction Up All Night DVD World Screening!

Directioners dancing on stage

Singapore was the first to watch UK sensation, One Direction’s Up All Night DVD that’s coming out on 28th May 2012. Directioners from all over the Island gathered at Resorts World Sentosa on 23rd May to catch the preview. I was awed by the young excited girls as the screamed their lungs out to sing every One Direction song that was played.

Everyone dancing along

It’s great to see a ‘boy band’ becoming popular again, since the era was long vanished. They boys from 1D have the looks and talent. Their album is great and I can understand why the world is in love with them.

The DVD screening went great. Fans were dancing and rocking out to all the songs and they were so excited…it was as if the band was physically at Resorts World Sentosa. I had to cover my ears so many times because the noise was just so over whelming – but I like it! It was a great experience too see so many people support one band.

I personally think that One Direction will become more popular than Justin Bieber!

To keep it short, the DVD is great and I think you should get it! It’s very interesting to see what goes on backstage during a concert. Who knows, One Direction might just pop by to Singapore after this!

What To Expect When You’re Expecting Movie Review

What To Expect When You’re Expecting Movie Review

I attended the movie premiere for ‘What To Expect When You’re Expecting’, and I have to admit that my expectations were high because the cast list was impressive. People like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Christ Rock and Dennis Quaid starred in the movie. With great casts comes a great story line right? (sounds like ‘with great power comes great responsibility’)

Chace Crawford = HOTNESS

Plot Summary: Inspired by the perennial New York Times bestseller of the same name, "What to Expect When You're Expecting" is a hilarious and heartfelt big screen comedy about five couples whose intertwined lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood.

Over the moon about starting a family, TV fitness guru Jules and dance show star Evan find that their high-octane celebrity lives don't stand a chance against the surprise demands of pregnancy. Baby-crazy author and advocate Wendy gets a taste of her own militant mommy advice when pregnancy hormones ravage her body; while Wendy's husband, Gary, struggles not to be outdone by his competitive alpha-Dad, who's expecting twins with his much younger trophy wife, Skyler. Photographer Holly is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex isn't so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a "dudes" support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. And rival food truck chefs Rosie and Marco's surprise hook-up results in an unexpected quandary: what to do when your first child comes before your first date?

A kaleidoscopic comedy as universal as it is unpredictable, "What to Expect When You're Expecting" finds humor and uplift in all the unexpected trials and triumphs of welcoming a child into the world.

I have to admit that I was actually disappointed with the movie. The cast was great and the acting was superb – there was no doubt about that. However, the storyline held no substance. There wasn’t a clear protagonist, which was weird, each role seemed equally important. However that meant that character development was hard to pull off and I have to say that they didn’t manage to convince me enough.
That aside, the movie was entertaining as it kept me laughing, as the jokes were witty. Entertainment value was present. However, will I watch the movie again? NO.
If you do want to watch the movie because you love the cast, then I will recommend you to do so. I will rate this movie a 2/5 munchies!

'A Chorus Line' - The 8 Tony Awards Winning Musical

A Chorus Line - The Musical

A Chorus Line tells the tale of 17 dancers desperately auditioning for eight stage roles in a musical. In an empty theater, on a bare stage, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. It is what they have worked for – with every drop of sweat, every hour of practice, every minute of every day of their lives. This is their chance to dance. Their personal human stories are told through captivating song, riveting drama and stunning choreography.

I loved the final number!

I was particularly captivated by the intense choreography that kept me entertained through out the musical. The dancers were really talented and I could tell that a lot of them had a professional dance background - and I was right! I have to admit that not all the actors had great vocals though, and that was one thing that disappointed me when I watched the musical.

Nevertheless, the musical was still entertaining and thought provoking. It focused on themes like individuality vs collectivism. All 17 dancers had different personalities and backgrounds and yet they had to act and dance the same to be part of 'A Chorus Line'. I enjoyed the whole notion of that particular theme. The musical also focused on other themes like family and dreams. I could relate to many of the characters, which was a great thing because it made the musical real to the audience. One thing that struck me was how a character called Paul got bullied due to his sexuality. This happens in almost every society and watching it in Singapore's context was great. It was an eye opener for our local culture here.

I feel that that musical could have been even better because there's so much potential for it. True enough, when I interviewed some of the cast members -Rohan Browne (Zach), Monique Salle (Bebe) and Euan Doidge (Paul), they told me that they had 2 weeks of rehearsals and it was opening night after that. Every show is a form of rehearsal to them.

If you are a dance geek, I will recommend you to watch this musical because I was just too mesmerized by the dancing. However, if you are expecting 'drama' and 'power vocals' in your traditional musicals, then you will not be paying for what you hope for.

Nonetheless, catch the musical if you are interested because the last day of the musical in Singapore is on 27th May 2012.

21 Jumpstreet Movie Review

21 Jumpstreet Movie Poster
21 Jumpstreet was a popular American police/crime drama television series that was first aired in 1987. Many years later, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller made this TV series into a crazy movie.

Channing Tatum as Jenko, and Jonah Hill as Schmidt
Starring Jonah Hill (Schmidt) and the ‘very hot and handsome’ Channing Tatum (Jenko), this movie was centred on these two police cops who once went to the same high school. Jenko was the hot and popular jock, while Schmidt was your typical geek who got bullied by Mr. Hot and Popular. Turns out that when the boys graduate from police academy, they end up working together as underachieving cops who don’t see action at all.
They end up going undercover as high school students to bring out a drug ring and relive their high school days. The only difference is – the switch status in school. Schmidt is the popular guy while Jenko is the nerd.
This movie is filled with witty dialogue that will keep you laughing till you end up on the edge of your seat. The storyline just keeps on developing in such a comedic matter. However, the audience also gets to experience how the main characters feel through out the movie.
21 jumpstreet was directed well and it’s a movie that’s worth watching because there is a really huge and pleasant surprise. A very very very famous and authentic actor surprisingly appears in the movie. When I was at the premiere, the whole theatre screamed so loudly by the nice surprise.
The only thing that bugged me was that certain jokes in the movie were ‘trying too hard’. It almost made it seem to take the film seriously at points, especially since tine was spent creating a realist environment for the characters.
Overall, I will recommend this movie to you because I am planning to watch this movie again. Ill will give this movie 4.5/5 stars because I enjoyed it to bits.

So what happened in March?

My March passed by pretty fast, what about yours? I'm gonna keep this personal post pretty short and just write some of the highlights for the month of March.

1) I shifted house
After staying in a two story house for 13 years, my family finally decided to move house...into a smaller house. Its hard adjusting and I miss my old place because of the memories. Plus, it seemed more convenient and the traveling time is much shorter. That aside, my new room is cosy! I'm not done decorating it just yet! Perhaps I'll post pictures when I'm done!

2) I took a weekend trip to Malacca with my friends
I really needed a gateway from Singapore for a while so my friends and I spent one of the weekends in Malacca, Malaysia. Went crazy on shopping and exploring the local food there.

Malacca

A&W Root Beer <3

3) TV Shows
I started watching a few new tv series. 2 Broke Girls, I Hate My Teenage Daughter and Jane By Design. Among all of them, I love Jane By Design the best. I hope that they will renew a season 2.

One of the actors, Nick Roux is damnnn hot!

Andrea Flavia William
Nick Roux
He plays the character, Billy in the show. He's Jane's best friend and his character is very well written and developed! I love it!

4) I started my internship that will last for 6 months!
I'm interning at Radio Heatwave, which is the first campus radio station in singapore. Ive been a DJ there for 2 years and as part of my internship, I'm the Programme Director and General Manager of the station. I know what you must be thinking, internship and big roles. haha. Well you see, we have a student media conglomerate company called m:idea. It has media departments and part of it is Radio Heatwave. We deal with clients and all those good stuff that happens in a normal media company. Its eye opening and I have been learning a lot. Most importantly, I've been enjoying myself a lot.

The management team and I had our photo shoot last week. Here's one picture.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic
Promotional Shoot

I'm not gonna bore you with other things that happened in March, hahhaa. Internship has taken up half of my march. We have a lot of things planned for Radio Heatwave and we are working on it. We are the first media school, and still the best! <3 Oh and Radio Heatwave will be celebrating its 20th Birthday this year!

My Interview with A1 for Radio Heatwave

A1 in Singapore
I have a very exciting blog post for you today. I ended my month of February interviewing the boys of A1 for Radio Heatwave. My life would have been complete if I interviewed Blue, but oh well, they didn't really engage too much with the press.

A1, Blue and Jeff Timmons had their Greatest Hits world tour and they came to Singapore and performed at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. I sadly missed the concert. Sadness aside, I got to speak to the boys of A1 and interview the pretty boy of the band, Ben Adams.

Your friendly Radio Heatwave DJ's (Michelle and me, Andrea) with the boys from A1
Michelle and I got to take a nice picture with the boys too. They still look really young.

Ben Adams all excited and hyped up when talking to us.

This is what Ben Adams had to tell Radio Heatwave.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: How are you finding Singapore so far?
Ben Adams, A1:
I’m finding it amazing! It’s been 10 years since we’ve been here, and we didn’t know if anyone would remember us, so it was a bit of a worry. But then seeing everyone at the show last night and people just waiting for us at the airport and the hotel was incredible! People do remember us and also seem to love the new stuff… It’s great.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: How was it touring and sharing the stage with Blue and Jeff Timmons so far?
Ben Adams, A1:
It’s been really fun. We’ve known each other for a long time and it’s just been really fun. We don’t do any of this little boy band dancing and backing tracks. We brought a whole live band and played everything totally live so we do very different shows and I think it works out well.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: You took about seven years off before reuniting, how was it like recording together and standing on the same stage after so long?
Ben Adams, A1:
It was brilliant! I mean, it wasn’t really a planned thing for us to get back together. We did one TV show over in Norway where they wanted us to sing A1 songs again and the reaction was so good, that Universal wanted us to make an album and we went on to do 60 sold-out concerts over in Europe. It was just magic really. Doing our own solo projects was really fun but I think we all felt that we just had more fun together! You know, it’s like when you watch a movie you don’t really want to watch it alone, you wanna watch it with someone. So, things like last night at the concert, to be able to look over at Mark and Christian and just go, “Wow! We’re doing this. We’re sharing it together!” It’s an amazing feeling.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: After A1 actually split up back in 2002, right, what have you been doing till you actually reunited back a few years ago?
Ben Adams, A1:
I’ve just been playing PlayStation.
Andrea, Radio Heatwave:
Not even Xbox?!
Ben Adams, A1:
No Xbox. I played it for a little while but PlayStation had an edge. (laughs)
We’ve been doing a lot, I mean we have studios in London, so we’ve been writing and producing for other artists. We’ve all done various different project solo albums. Christian’s released three solo albums back in his home country. I went on a show called Celebrity Big Brother, which was very strange, but kinda fun with some of the people in there. I love Austin Powers, and Mini Me was there with me, and that was weird! But it was great and kinda fun. But even if it hasn’t been A1, we’ve always still been doing music.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: You were known for your “Pretty Boy” image in the past, now that you’re older, what kind of image do you have?
Ben Adams, A1:
Ugly girl. That’s what I’m going for! (laughs) Pretty Boy to Ugly Girl.
No! I don’t know! I don’t think I’ve aged that much actually! I’ve been very lucky. I’ve sort of just remained, well, in my head anyway, about 16 years old. So I’m definitely not more mature. I’m still just a kid, joking around, having fun. But I got ID’d the other day while buying some cigarettes for a friend. See, you’ve got to be 16 years old to buy them, and I was dancing around the shop! The cashier was very confused behind the counter, but you see but I’m 30! So, I felt brilliant… And also plastic surgery helped. I’m joking.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: What inspired your music 10 years ago and what inspires it now? Has there been any difference?
Ben Adams, A1:
10 years ago, when I was young, I was inspired to write Like A Rose for my mum, but a lot of people thought it was a love song and they played it at weddings! But, I think when you haven’t had a lot of life experience when you’re 16, that kind of age, you listen to other songs and you listen to other artists and you get inspired by them because you haven’t experienced those experiences of love or breakup or worldly experiences yourself. But when you’re older, (the other guys are old, I’m still fresh) you just get a lot more experiences to draw from.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: How do you keep your music relevant to your old fans, while appealing to new ones?
Ben Adams, A1:
Well, it’s a tricky thing but you gotta remember that the old fans that used to love us back in the day, they’ve all grown up too so we don’t really have to think about trying to cater to them. We just do the music that we love to do, but we all keep up-to-date and we’re inspired by loads of different music today like Lady Gaga’s, Katy Perry’s, our favourite artists’ like Bruce Springsteen. I think it’s important to keep an eye on what’s going on in the trends of music but still keep it sort of A1. We don’t want to copy other people too much.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: Do you have any plans to release another album?
Ben Adams, A1:
Yeah! We’re always writing! I think, as a songwriter, you always think that the last song you’ve written is the best one, so we’ve got lots of new best songs that we wanna release but we gotta obviously take it one step at a time. We’re very proud of Waiting For Daylight, and we have to make sure that that gets its own life.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: What is the craziest thing a fan ever did to you?
Ben Adams, A1:
People follow us all over the world in planes and minivans. We didn’t pay for ourselves, but Sony back in the day was paying for everything but they used to put us up in some amazing flights and hotels, and everything that we did was very expensive. But the fans kept on following us!
I think the craziest thing was when a fan came up to me, and we’d seen her in loads of different places and she’d been following us everywhere, and we’re like, “What’s your favourite song on the album?” She went, “Oh, I don’t have your album.” And we were like, “WHAT? Why not?” And she went, “Oh, because I spent all my money following you around!” (laughs) And we were like “Oh!” So, yeah, it was interesting, or maybe crazy.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: Older bands like Backstreet Boys have formed a unique group with New Kids on the Block. But, where do you see A1 going from here?
Ben Adams, A1:
Sky’s the limit, really. We just wanna branch out and be as successful as possible, really, but I don’t think we’ll be joining up with any other bands and making a super group. I think we’re pretty sufficient just ourselves… Unless it’s a girl band, than that’ll be awesome!

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: Any girl bands in mind?
Ben Adams, A1:
Oh, there’s this K-Pop thing going on that’s pretty cool! We were in the gym the other day and we were sort of watching all this stuff on TV, and there were like a million people in one band! I mean, no one makes any money but it looks great! So yeah, maybe we can be a part of that! Maybe we can be K1-Pop.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: Are you gonna do any K-Pop songs then?
Ben Adams, A1:
enough, we’ve been asked to write for a lot of the K-Pop groups. So we’ll see, maybe A1 songs, or maybe A1-written songs, will turn up on their albums. That’d be fun.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: What message do you have for all your listeners and your fans in Singapore?
Ben Adams, A1:
Thank you for your support. It’s fantastic to be back here. We can’t wait to come back and do more concerts and we hope you’re enjoying the new album, Waiting For Daylight. If you don’t have it, go get it! You need it. It’s a must-have.

Andrea, Radio Heatwave: Okay, we trust your judgment.
Ben Adams, A1:
I trust it too. It’s awesome.

Look at the amount of questions I had :)

Ben Adams giving us our radio liner and also, wishing Radio Heatwave its 20th Birthday!

Ben insisted on showcasing his drawing skill and drew me a picture for radio heatwave. It was very cute. Check it out for yourself.

Ben drew this..so cute right?

I have to be honest and say that it was just so easy to interview him. Artistes usually have something against the interviewee or at the media at large. Ive interviewed other artistes that I wish I hadn't met or interviewed in the first place. I'll not mention who though. haha.

Hope you found this entertaining and informative and A1 has promised Radio Heatwave that they will be back really soon. He really assured us. So keep a look out for that.

Personal Post: Month of February kicked me in the ass

As promised, here's a personal post to sum up my month of February. Based on the title, you might have guessed that Feb was pretty tough, and I have to blame it on school. I barely had time for myself or my friends, and I didn't blog at all. I just wrote one small post for Universal Music, which didn't take much brain power at all.

Our Magazine
One of our major projects was to come up with a magazine from scratch. It was one of the toughest thing we had to do and I'm really glad that it's over. I promise that I WILL NEVER become a feature writer or an editor. I would rather became a mother tongue teacher. And if you know me well, the fact that I will want to become a mother tongue teacher is sealing my death sentence!

We had tons of other submissions and exams after that. I feel so thankful that I survived...that WE survived.

Me and my Margarita
I finally had my margaritas that I have been craving for. Celebrated with my poly friends after our last exam paper.

My friend, steph, cooked us a meal.
After all the school stuff, my friend, steph cooked us a really nice meal one of the days towards the end of Feb. That was nice, to finally chill out with my friends from church.

Michelle and I with A1
The only news worthy thing that I did for Feb was to interview British-Norwegian band, A1. That was pretty nice. Interviewed them for Radio Heatwave on the last day of Feb. It was a nice way to end the month. The full interview will be up on my blog soon enough!

My dream would have been to interview the boy band, Blue, who also came down with A1 for their Asian Tour...but they didn't engage with the media much. I was a crazy ass fanatic fan of blue around 10 years ago. Oh well..the boys from A1 were too cute anyway.

That aside, I started watching 2 new Tv Series.

New Girl
I know New Girl has been out a while, but I never have the time for anything else anyway. However, I FINALLY managed to catch this and I am in love with the show! Its so funny and the story line is pretty nice. I'm excited the see how the characters develop.

Smash
Smash is your adult version of Glee and it's a good storyline. I love how the show show is all about theater. Makes me miss being in theater so much.

That's what happened more or less for February. Hope you had a good month. If not, hang in there because March brings us a lot of hope to turn things around.

xoxo

Real Techniques Core Collection Review

Real Techniques Core Collection

Hey there! You might have heard of this amazing British make up artiste called Samantha Chapman. She's 1/2 of the Pixiwoo sisters on YouTube. Anyway, Samantha has her own collection of brushes called 'Real Techniques'. Every time the sisters do their videos on YouTube, they use these brushes and I really love how the brushes work. With that said, I knew that I had to get my hands on those brushes.

Now, these aren't available in Singapore (the place where I live). But, thank goodness for Sprees and international shipping. I bought this particular brush set from Ulta from the USA. It's called the Real Techniques Core Collection. It comes in a black case which is very handy for traveling. There are four brushes in the set. The Real Techniques foundation brush, buffing brush, contour brush and the detailer brush. I have to admit and say that I have been using these brushes EVERYDAY for a month already and I absolutely LOVE them to bits because it is a good investment.

All the brushes from the line are synthetic, which makes it long lasting in my opinion and it is also perfect to apply cream products using synthetic brushes.

Lets go on and talk about each brushes.

Real Techniques Foundation Brush
The Real Techniques Foundation Brush is actually TOO small to apply foundation with. It will take a really long time if you want to apply foundation all over your face. However, I do use this brush for applying concealer under my eyes. It is pretty efficient to apply the product there. I then use my ring finger to blend the concealer properly into my skin.

Real Techniques Buffing Brush
This particular brush is a miracle worker. I personally prefer the Real Techniques Buffing Brush as compared to the Sigma Flat Top Kabuki (F-80) Brush. The bristles aren't too dense and it really works well to blend and buff the product into your skin. I use this brush to apply foundation or BB Cream primarily. However, I have used this a couple of times to apply blush and bronzer and it works just as well. This is a multifunctional brush that just makes your life easier in the morning.

Real Techniques Contour Brush
The Real Techniques Contour Brush is something that works really well. I need to contour my round face (haha) and the size of the brush is perfect and it gets the job done. You can also apply blush with this brush. Another brush that has made my life so much easier in the morning.

Real Techniques Detailer Brush
Lastly, there's the Real Technique Detailer Brush. It's this super tiny brush that I use to apply lip stick with. OR you can also use this to apply concealer on blemishes or dark spots. I use this more for concealer as I don't really apply lipstick using a brush. It's too much of a hassle to do sometimes. I don't have a brush like this so it's really nice to have it.

My favourite brushes from this set is the buffing and contour brush. I paid around SGD 28 for this whole set, including shipping fee. It cost 17.99 USD. Pretty cheap brushes and it works as well as mac brushes. I will 100% recommend this and even though it's not really available in tons of places, you have got to thank online shopping for that. I bought mine from Smoochiezz. Its a reliable company that imports international make up brand and handles sprees for customers.

With that said, I hope that you have found this review useful. I will rate this brush set a 4.5/5  :-D

xoxo

Liveomusic Interviews British Indie Band, Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay Bicycle Club and I at MBS

Hey guys, I got the wonderful chance to sit down with popular indie band, Bombay Bicycle Club when they came down to Singapore for The People's Party music festival. I spoke to Guitarist, Jamie MacColl and Bassist, Ed Nesh. I have to admit that the interview felt pretty weird, but it was entertaining at the same time. We spoke A LOT and I literally had to cut out a lot of parts or the article would have never ended.

The guys were really nice and to find out what they have to tell Liveomusic, read the full interview below.

Yes, me interviewing the band mates.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: Have you had the chance to view the city yet?
Jamie MacColl: I don’t think there’s a better place to be, to view the city from here. (from Marina Bay Sands Hotel)
Ed Nesh: Yes, we viewed the whole city!

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: How did you guys meet each other and decide to form a band?
Jamie MacColl: Jack, Suren and I went to school together and we were all in the same class. One day we were asked by our teacher to play in a school assembly. Jack had been writing a lot of songs from the age of 13, and already recorded three or four albums by himself. We met Ed about a year later through a mutual friend and we asked him to join us. And that’s sort of the story of how we formed the band.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: Did you guys click instantly?
Both: No (laughs).
Ed Nesh: I don’t know about the other three. I kind of knew these guys very briefly through the mutual friend, I didn’t really know them beforehand.
Jamie MacColl: I remember clicking with Jack fairly instantly through music and stuff, we went to a lot of gigs together. We all get on very well now.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: How will you describe the overall dynamics of your band?
Jamie MacColl: Well, I don’t know, haha. Jack sort of leads the creative direction. I mean, Jack and Suren are all quiet, naturally quite quiet people whereas I am- my personality’s slightly more dominating. I have strong opinions about a lot of things but everyone has strong opinions about a lot of things, I just express them really readily I think.
Ed Nesh: It works, it shouldn’t really work but it works really well, even if it shouldn’t and even if it’s probably quite annoying for people to work with us and not agree.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: You will be performing at the People’s Party at Scape later on. What are you looking forward to the most?
Jamie MacColl: Well it’s always just nice coming to a new place for completely the first time. So you have no expectations. You’ve no idea what the crowd will be like because it’s different in every country. And it’s (also) based on the sort of local culture I think, like, southeast asian fans generally seem to be quite reserved sort of in comparison to the west.
Ed Nesh: I think Singapore might be a bit different. From what we’ve found so far, they’re reserved in a very positive way, everyone sits there and is very attentive and between the songs go wild and then they’re very quiet again during the songs. Whereas kind of in Europe, especially in England, people like to kind of fight and throw stuff and make noise.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: If that happens in Singapore, you’ll see that dude behind bars for one night, so people tend not to do it. But has anyone actually thrown beer cans or beer bottles at you guys when you were playing before?
Ed Nesh: We’ve had that quite a lot.
Jamie MacColl: You just have to hope it doesn’t hit you. The worst is what’s it sometimes in festivals it could be a bottle of wee or something.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: I’ve heard that you guys are beyond energetic on stage, how and where does the energy actually come from?
Ed Nesh: It’s cause we’re so chilled out all the rest of the time like now, it’s all saved up for the show.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: Are you actually aware of your audience reach here in asia?
Jamie MacColl: To a certain extent cause of  how interlinked bands are with social media these days and us in particular cause with our generation going on to it so much, and even if you’ve never gone to a country you have a direct link to fans so I think you have a vague idea that you have fans in these places

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: Let’s say you guys had to choose any artist or band that you could actually work with, who would it be, your own personal favourite?
Jamie MacColl: I know Suren wants to work with Tinie Tempah and we met Tinie Tempah and he was like ‘Hey let’s do a collaboration’ obviously he was just saying that to be polite and we were like ‘Yeah!

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: Let’s talk about your new album. Congratulations on your new album. How is it different from your EPs and your tour?
Ed Nesh: It’s kind of where we left off with the first album. I guess on this album it was written on a laptop as opposed to being written on a guitar and Jack did a lot of it and there’s a lot of electronic music.
Jamie MacColl: I think it’s kind of takes a lot of elements from the second album as well. It’s definitely a sort of softer album than the first one. Not necessarily soft poppier but less in-your-face, a bit more likes of texture and atmosphere than big guitar rifts.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: For your current album right now how well do you think it’s been going since it was released?
Jamie MacColl: It’s weird, I think if you have a particular attachment to either the first or the second album, I don’t know sometimes, you’re probably going to be less receptive to something that is again different. I think the general consensus in the quid pro quo is to make more serious music and it’s like a big step up, the double floor. I mean, I don’t know, I think in the UK especially the music press there was a lot of snideness about the first two albums and I think there was always resentment because we were quite young as if that made us more serious fans. I think partly it’s because we’re a bit older and the lyrics are slightly less – suddenly started taking us seriously.

VJ Andrea, Liveomusic: But are you still struggling with the fact that people might not take you seriously?
Ed Nesh: Not so much. I personally didn’t notice it much at all, in fact it never really crops up any more whereas in the past especially with the first album every thing I would read would be sense of my fault – I mean I guess we didn’t give them much to work with because we’re not the most talkative (people).
Jamie MacColl: I mean I sort of read everything and I read every blog, I don’t know why. It’s so obstructive. I mean it’s actually got to the point where I feel like hardened, so much (so) that it doesn’t really matter anymore, so yeah it’s not- I think you’ve just got to have a lot of self belief. I feel more sorry for the people who’ve got to make a living out of sort of being horrible about people’s music. I’d rather be making the music and I’m sure they would too.

The British boys have been pretty successful for such a young band. Liveomusic wishes them all the best of luck for their future endeavors and hope that they will be back in Singapore soon for a solo gig!

Sigma Flat Top Kabuki (F-80) Review

Sigma Flat Top Kabuki (F-80)
I ordered this brush online a few months back and when I received it, I was so psyched. The first thing that surprised me was the size of the brush. I swear that it looked bigger in photos and videos. I started using this on a daily basis when applying different foundations and BB Creams.

Design
The design of the brush is very sleek, just like all of Sigma's other brushes. Thus, there's no issue on the design. I love it.

Bristles
The bristles are very dense and packed together and I feel that this is good for bending the product well. However, there is only one thing to take note, since the bristles are very dense and packed together, your product will 'seep' pretty deep into the bristles, and this will be hard for cleaning.

Blending
Blending of the product is pretty quick and the brush allows you to build your foundation easily when needed. However, I have noticed that the bristles sometimes tend to create the brush strokes on your face so you will have to be careful about that and ensure that you either use a sponge or your fingers to blend away those brush strokes.

Cleaning
Now, this was the headache I got...trying to clean the brush. No matter how much I clean it with the shampoo, Its really hard to come out. I decided not to try using olive oil because I read online that it will be then hard to remove the oil from the brush. I usually like shampoo it 3 times. But before that, I allow the bristles to soak in make up remover for a while. It helps but damn have I wasted so much of make up remover. If anyone has a better method, please do tell me. I need it!

This brush has made applying foundation in the morning quick and easy and thus, made my life a litte bit more convenient. I believe after shipping and all those stuff I spent around 30 bucks (SGD) on the product. Thus for the price, I will say that the brush is pretty worth it. Its not THAT expensive and this particular brush is unique.

I will rate this brush 4/5 beauty stars.

xoxo
